Reduction Woodcuts
Reduction woodcut -- a frightening medium.  It's all done with one piece of wood.  You print the same piece of paper from lighter to darker colors, each time carving away more wood.    No turning back once it's carved away!  Notice on the left the actual board.   You need to use a permanent marker with spray fixative over it (so it doesn't come off on your print) to mark your design.  Otherwise, as you get to future colors, you won't remember where to carve away.
The race (a costumed race fundraiser for my son's public school) was a huge success!!!  Everyone brought such great community spirit.   I'm really looking forward to next year.  Best moment: finishing the 3.1 mile course with my 6 year old, Satchel, who ran the whole distance in a cape and finished with a beautiful smile on his face!
Half done (red and dark blue still to print) The background color will actually be gray
